About Alexander Chamitoff, CRPS®

Choosing and managing a workplace retirement plan can feel unnecessarily complicated. Employers must navigate plan design, fiduciary responsibilities, investment oversight, provider relationships, employee communication, and administrative demands, while employees are simply trying to understand whether they are saving enough for retirement.

I help bring those pieces together.

I am Alexander Chamitoff, CRPS®, Retirement Plan Relationship Manager and Participant Education Specialist at Strategic Wealth Design. I work with business owners, plan sponsors, human resources teams, retirement plan committees, and employees to make employer-sponsored retirement plans easier to manage, easier to understand, and more meaningful to the people they are intended to serve.

My primary focus includes:

• 401(k) retirement plans
• 403(b) retirement plans
• Profit-sharing plans
• Cash balance and defined benefit plans
• Plan sponsor and retirement committee support
• Employee enrollment and participant education
• Retirement readiness and financial wellness
• Recordkeeper and service-provider coordination
• Plan benchmarking and ongoing plan reviews
• Fiduciary process and investment oversight support

Before joining Strategic Wealth Design, I served as a primary relationship manager and education resource for more than 400 employer-sponsored retirement plans. That experience gave me a practical understanding of what employers and employees need from a retirement plan advisor: responsive service, clear communication, thoughtful education, and coordination among the many parties involved in operating a plan.

A little about me

I was born and raised in California and now call Nevada home. Outside the office, I enjoy mountaineering, rock climbing, surfing, scuba diving, and other water sports. I also generally have at least two dogs in the house.
Those interests reflect much of what I value professionally: preparation, clear communication, trust, and helping people move confidently toward a meaningful destination.

Strategic Wealth Design has helped our company with over 50 employees with setting up and managing our 401Ks. They have continually provided advice on investments for myself, my employees, and the business. Mahesh and Paolo are rock stars! They're always willing to go the extra mile to make sure our business is taken care of! I don't know what I would have done without them in our first year of adding 401k benefits to our company! Thank you!

FAQs

Who does Strategic Wealth Design serve?
We serve business owners, employers, plan sponsors, human resources teams, retirement plan committees, executives, healthcare professionals, nonprofit organizations, employees, pre-retirees, retirees, and families seeking coordinated financial guidance.
What types of employer retirement plans does SWD work with?
SWD works with 401(k), 403(b), profit-sharing, cash balance, defined benefit, and other employer-sponsored retirement plans. The appropriate plan structure depends on the organization’s workforce, goals, budget, and administrative needs.
What does a retirement plan advisor do for an employer?
A retirement plan advisor helps an employer evaluate plan design, investments, fees, service providers, employee education, and fiduciary processes. The advisor may also coordinate with the recordkeeper, third-party administrator, investment providers, and retirement plan committee.
How can an employer tell whether its 401(k) fees are reasonable?
An employer can assess 401(k) fees by reviewing all plan expenses, identifying who pays each cost, comparing services and pricing with similar plans, and documenting the review. A plan benchmark can help determine whether fees and services remain competitive and appropriate.
How often should an employer benchmark its retirement plan?
Employers should review plan fees, investments, services, participation, and provider performance regularly. A more formal benchmark may be appropriate when costs or service needs change, the plan grows, providers underperform, or the organization has not completed a recent competitive review.
How can employers improve 401(k) or 403(b) participation?
Employers can improve participation through clear enrollment communication, practical education, convenient enrollment, thoughtful plan design, employer contributions, and ongoing employee support. Automatic enrollment and automatic contribution increases may also help when appropriate for the plan.
What is the difference between a 401(k) and a 403(b) plan?
A 401(k) is generally offered by private-sector employers, while a 403(b) is generally available to eligible public schools, nonprofit organizations, and certain religious organizations. Both can support tax-advantaged retirement saving, but their rules, plan structures, and investment arrangements may differ.
What is a profit-sharing plan?
A profit-sharing plan allows an employer to make discretionary contributions to eligible employees’ retirement accounts. The contribution formula can be designed around business objectives, employee demographics, and applicable plan rules.
What is a cash balance plan?
A cash balance plan is a type of defined benefit retirement plan that expresses each participant’s benefit as an account-like balance. It may allow larger employer contributions than a defined contribution plan, particularly for certain established business owners and professionals, but it also involves funding commitments and actuarial administration.
What fiduciary responsibilities do retirement plan sponsors have?
Plan fiduciaries generally must act prudently and in participants’ interests, follow plan documents, monitor investments and service providers, pay reasonable plan expenses, and maintain a documented decision-making process. Employers should consult qualified legal, tax, and plan-administration professionals regarding their specific responsibilities.
