About David L. Harris, Jr.

Hi, I'm David Harris, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner of MCF Advisors.

I began my career in 1980 as a commodity trader on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and in 1982 I co-founded Harris & Koster, a commodity trading firm, where I served as CEO. In 1985, I became Vice President of Integrated Resources, Inc., a Wall Street investment firm located in New York City. In 1989, I founded Mid-South Capital Asset Management, an SEC registered investment management firm, which I led as CEO until it was sold in 2000. I then joined Central Bank & Trust as Executive Vice President, where I co-founded and headed Central Bank Wealth Management.

In 2004, I co-founded MCF Advisors, an SEC registered investment management firm, and served as Chief Operating Officer. Since 2012, I have served as CEO, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of MCF Advisors LLC and MCF Financial Holdings LLC.

Today, in addition to leading MCF, I serve as Founder Manager of the Operating Committee of MCF Financial Holdings, and on the Boards of Directors of Worldwide Equipment Enterprises, Inc. and Davis H. Elliot Company, Inc. I am also Managing Member of Seven Stones Farm LLC and President & Managing Member of Seven Stones Equine Holdings LLC.

Over the years, I have also served on a range of corporate, public and nonprofit boards. These include Armstrong Energy, Inc. and a governor appointment to the Kentucky Retirement Systems Board of Trustees, where I served as Chairman of the Board, the Investment Committee and the Actuarial Subcommittee. I have also served many faith-based, educational and health-focused organizations, including Lexington Christian Academy and the American Diabetes Association.

I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Finance from the University of Illinois. My wife, Jennifer, and I have been married for 41 years, and together we have two children and six grandchildren.

About MCF Advisors

MCF Advisors, LLC (“MCF”) is an SEC-registered investment adviser serving individuals, families, business owners, and organizations through Wealth Management and Corporate Retirement Plan Services.

Our Wealth Management team provides personalized guidance across investment management, retirement planning, tax and estate planning, business succession, and risk management. Our Corporate Retirement Plan Services team helps employers navigate fiduciary responsibilities and supports participants in preparing for retirement.

At MCF, we believe financial advice should be personal, coordinated, and built around what matters most to you. Our team takes a collaborative approach to helping you navigate life’s financial decisions. We’re proud to be recognized as a “Best Places to Work in Kentucky” winner for eight consecutive years (2018 - 2026).

Why MCF

At MCF Advisors, our collaborative, team-based approach brings together professionals across investment strategy, financial planning, tax strategy, and estate planning coordination for eligible clients. By combining our expertise, we bring greater depth and perspective to the financial planning process, helping clients make informed decisions aligned with their goals and priorities.

Who We Serve

We serve individuals, families and business owners, and we guide our decisions by what we call the Triangle of Success: outstanding client experiences, supported by engaged team members and financial growth. We are only successful when we achieve all three. When those interests pull in different directions, we resolve them in a set order: clients first, team second, ourselves third.

FAQs

Who is MCF Advisors a good fit for?
MCF Advisors is a good fit for individuals, families, business owners, and organizations looking for a thoughtful, personalized approach to financial decision-making. We work with people navigating retirement, building and preserving wealth, planning for future generations, or preparing for a business transition. We also partner with employers seeking guidance on their corporate retirement plans and support for their employees. Across each relationship, we value collaboration, long-term planning, and advice tailored to each client’s goals, priorities, and stage of life.
Is MCF Advisors a fiduciary? How do you get paid?
Yes. MCF Advisors is an SEC-registered investment adviser and acts as a fiduciary when providing investment advice, which means our recommendations must be made in our clients’ best interests. We charge an advisory fee based on the assets we manage, with fixed fees available for standalone planning work. Because asset-based fees increase as the assets we manage increase, they create certain conflicts of interest, such as an incentive to recommend that clients move or keep assets with us. We explain our fees in our first conversation, and our fees and conflicts of interest are described in our Form ADV Part 2A and Form CRS.
